Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer, Images, and Analysis. J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) teaser trailer stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Issac. The trailer is exactly what it is advertised as…a tease. A good tease. Much of the 88-second trailer seems to take place on Tatooine, the home world of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker. As most know already, the “seventh film in the Star Wars universe will take place 30 years after 1983’s ‘Return of the Jedi’”

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer analysis:

The Stormtrooper Wakes Up

John Boyega’s character, in a Stormtrooper battle uniform, wakes up in the desert sweating. He looks around, then begins to move away from the camera. Is he “good” or “bad?” As a ‘trooper, it can be assumed that he serves The Empire or whatever has grown to take its place.

The Desert Rider

Daisy Ridley’s character looks alarmed, gets on what looks like an advanced Pod Racer and takes off through the desert. This is another nod to Tatooine and that classic setting in Star Wars-lore. It is also reminiscent of the Pod Race in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. This moment also showed the continuous theme running throughout the trailer, one of alarm and reaction.

Winter, Obscurity, and a Lightsaber

It has been theorized that the figure, potentially dressed all in black, moving through a snow covered forest, is Oscar Issac. This figure, hears, sees, or senses something. Something that alarms him to the degree that he activates a red light-sabre.

The Spin Droid

A Droid is called to its owner, is running to alert someone, or is running away from something off-screen. This something could have something in common to what has John Boyega and Daisy Ridley’s characters up-in-arms. The Droid could also be malfunctioning.

Stormtroopers Ready and Begin Disembarking

Familiar yet slightly revamped Empiral Stormtroopers are lined up in rows of two ready to disembark from a ship at night or during early dawn. Are they being dropped into a ongoing conflict, are they backing up a unit or position under-siege, or are they being used in the vanguard of a yet undisclosed conflict? As with the other scenes in the trailer, the theme of alarm and readiness is present in addition to seeing that the military infrastructure of The Empire has survived the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi.

The Falcon and X-Wing Fighters

Two flight scenes of the Millennium Falcon and new “Rebel” X-wing fighters occur. Both were execrating if different ways, in particular the Millennium Falcon scene. Empiral fighters are chasing The Falcon in a similar desert locale (Tatooine?) seen earlier in the trailer. This would again indicate that the military aspect of The Empire is alive and well.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens also stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Max von Sydow, and Warwick Davis.
