Kick-Ass and Wanted creator Mark Millar negotiating Starlight adaptation. If the deal goes through, it would also extend Twentieth Century Fox’s list of projects in the works with Millar. Twentieth Century Fox is the studio behind Matthew Vaughn‘s adaptation of Millar’s miniseries The Secret Service, which stars Colin Firth, and the upcoming Nemesis adaptation by Joe Carnahan. Millar also serves as Twentieth Century Fox’s chief consultant on its Marvel Comics properties.
About Starlight, the comic:
The comic, drawn by Goran Parlov, is described by Millar as Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Returns. It centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. He settled down, got married, had kids and got old, but then is called back for one last adventure when his old rocket shows up.
Starlight is intended to be a six-issue miniseries and will kick off the Millarworld Universe: a 21st century version of the Marvel Universe, with a shared literary space inhabited by characters from various books by Millar and his artists.
Simon Kinberg, of X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past (also for Fox), has been tapped to produce the film. It will be his second collaboration with Millar, as he is already producing an adaptation of Millar’s Kindergarten Heroes.
The Starlight comic series is scheduled for a March, 2014 launch.
