Warner Bros. Announces Static Shock to Become Live-Action Web Series. Static Shock is about to make waves on the Web as Warner Bros. Digital Distribution announced that they would adapt the titular superhero as a live-action web series.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. production company Blue Ribbon Content will be in charge of some new projects for the digital space, including a live-action Static Shock project from Reginald Hudlin. No other details were released on the project, but it will be based on the 1993 comic book series written by Dwayne McDuffie and Robert L. Washington.
Blue Ribbon Entertainment has some other projects in the works as part of their digital line-up. These other projects include a series based on Mortal Kombat (to coincide with the upcoming Mortal Kombat X video game), the animated miniseries Justice League: Gods and Monsters (launching on Machinima in 2015), and the Veronica Mars spin-off Play It Again, Dick (which currently airs on CW Seed). The digital production company is also working on a virtual-reality project based on Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series.
Static Shock became popular back in 2000 when the animated series ran for four seasons. The comic follows teenager Virgil Hawkins, who gains electromagnetic powers after a toxin gets released in his neighborhood in an event called the Big Bang. The event also created other metahumans known as Bang Babies who cause havoc in the city prompting Virgil the city’s protector known as Static.
Static Shock was also relaunched as part of the New 52, but got cancelled after its eighth issue in April 2012. Since then, he was announced to become a member of the Teen Titans in the New 52 line-up. So are you guys excited to see a live-action web series based on Static Shock?
