Floriana Lima Will No Longer Be A Series Regular On Supergirl

Supergirl regular Floriana Lima has decided to cut back on her involvement with The CW‘s DC superhero series. Please be advised this story contains spoilers.

Since the show’s debut on CBS in 2015, Lima has played the role of Maggie Sawyer, a detective committed to solving cases involving metahumans and other out of the ordinary phenomena. In the most recent installment of the program, Maggie was proposed to by Alex Danvers after a mutual attraction that grew over the course of the season. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the series will explore the relationship much further now that Lima will be appearing in a reduced capacity.

The announcement comes just a day after John Barrowman announced his final departure from the Arrowverse, the collective name for the multiple shows on The CW that take inspiration from DC Comics properties.

Regarding Lima’s decision to be demoted to a recurring role, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg was fully supportive of the actress and her decision, with Kreisberg revealing that she will at least be back for a handful of episodes. Much like Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant who hasn’t been a series regular since the show’s first season.

“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” Kreisberg said. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”
