Matt Reeves Shares His Plans For The Batman
War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves opens up about his take on the planned superhero film The Batman.
Although he might not be a household name, Reeves has assembled quite the resume over the course of his career. Getting his start as a writer for movies like Future Shock and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, he has become known for helming such productions as Cloverfield and Let Me In. More recently, he has served as director on both entries of the Planet of the Apes reboot series.
Originally, Ben Affleck was set to direct The Batman on top of his acting duties, but the actor stepped down due to dissatisfaction with the position. This prompted Warner Bros to look for a replacement, which they found in the form of Reeves.

“One of the reasons I was drawn to it is I had a similar fascination to Batman when I was younger that I had with the Apes series, which I was obsessed with. I see a parallel emotionally between Caesar and Batman, in that they’re both characters who are tortured and trying to sort of grapple within themselves to find the way to do the right thing in a very imperfect and, to some degree, corrupt world. It’s really that emotionality that I’m interested in.
