THE COUNSELOR (2013): Michael Fassbender cast in Ridley Scott Film

Ridley Scott, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender cast in The Counselor. Michael Fassbender’s casting in Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor (2013) answers the question of who will play the lead role in the Cormac McCarthy scripted film. Michael Fassbender will be playing a lawyer in the drama, thriller movie. “The protagonist is a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.” The Counselor is said to be “reminiscent of the rough-and-tumble world depicted in the Oscar-winning adaptation of McCarthy’s novel No Country For Old Men.”

On the quality of The Counselor screenplay from producer Steve Schwartz:

Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.

On how The Counselor‘s production has progressed to this point:

The material is controlled by producers Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, who were invited by McCarthy’s ICM agents to get a peek (they produced the adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road). The producers bought it and Scott Free came aboard as producers with them when Scott committed. The film isn’t set at a studio and it is unclear when it will be.
