The Dark Knight Rises Bane Voice Over Changed. Bane’s voice comparison (IMAX prologue vs. Final Film) video demonstrates how the voice-over for Bane (Tom Hardy) was changed from The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue to the theatrical release of the film (reviewed here: The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Film Review). I know why the voice over was changed though: people complained that Bane’s voice was hard to understand over the turbulence of the G4 airplane.
I noticed the change immediately when Bane started speaking the theatrical release and his voice boomed out. I immediately didn’t like the voice change or the way lines were snipped. Christopher Nolan usual has a preferred take for a scene which is why alternates are not found on his home releases. That first recording of Bane’s dialogue on the G4 was the preferred take and Nolan changed it because of some people’s auditory reaction to it.
That was a mistake.
He should have kept it exactly the way it was and added subtitles underneath it.
Not only that, the first reading of Bane’s dialogue was better the second. Judge for yourself though.
The Dark Knight Rises‘ plot synopsis: “It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.
But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.”
