The English Patient director dies at 54

anthony-minghella.jpgAnthony Minghella, the acclaimed director of Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley and nine Oscar- winner The English Patient, has died of a hemorrhage at the age of 54.

After undergoing surgery for a growth on his neck last week at London’s Charing Cross Hospital, Minghella died yesterday of a hemorrhage from that surgery. Jude Law, who appeared in three of Minghella’s films, had this to say of Minghella’s death: “He was a sweet, warm, bright and funny man who was interested in everything from football to opera, films, music, literature, people and most of all his family whom he adored and to whom I send my thoughts and love.”

I was never a devotee of The English Patient but I love Cold Mountain and enjoyed The Talented Mr. Ripley. Minghella will be missed.
