The Houses October Built 2 Trailer

The first movie trailer for The Houses October Built 2 (2017) from RLJ Entertainment.

In a largely anemic year for horror movies, I’m not quite sure what to make of the trailer for The Houses October Built 2. Featuring the same cast as the original film, it boasts no big names but perhaps its for the better. Casting A-listers would definitely highlight the fact that they’re just actors playing roles, something that casting lesser known talent usually manages to avoid. Whether they play their roles adequately is an entirely different matter, but as far I can tell they all do a suitable enough job from the little we’ve seen so far.

Also heightening the documentary feel of the piece is the frequent use of shaky handheld shots, giving us a feel of all the commotion that is going on. Another cool effect at the beginning of the trailer is the sparse lighting, with a policeman pulling up on the scene of an uncovered coffin lit only by the front lights of his car and a single stationary light. It’s not as striking as a very similar shot in this year’s Shot Caller, but it nevertheless shows a thoughtfulness all too lacking in contemporary horror.

Bobby Roe‘s The Houses October Built 2 (2017) stars Brandy SchaeferZack Andrews, Mikey Roe, Bobby Roe, and Jeff Larson.
