The Leftovers To Premiere Its Final Season In Spring 2017

HBO announced that the third and final season of The Leftovers is set to start in spring of 2017.

Boasting an ensemble cast, the science fiction drama tells the story of ordinary people struggling to come to terms with the unexplained disappearance of 140 million people across the world. Against this bizarre backdrop, the characters endeavor to find out what became of them and – more importantly – continue with their now irrevocably-changed lives.

With episodes slated for the upcoming season, it will be interesting to see how the writers wrap up the series and if it meets its small-but-passionate fanbase’s expectations:

The Leftovers went through a creative makeover for Season 2, which was well received despite the lack of recognition by the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes. (The series did receive a WGA Award nomination for its second season.) Its ratings had been modest as best, putting its long-term prospects in question, but the series and Lindelof — for whom this has been a passion project — has been well liked by HBO and Warner Bros. TV brass, and a third season allows the creators to close out the story.

The Season 3 cast includes Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Kevin Carroll, Christopher Eccleston, Scott Glenn, Lindsay Duncan, Regina King, Jovan Adepo, Janel Moloney, Margaret Qualley, Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Liv Tyler and Chris Zylka.
