Hulu Decides To Renew The Mindy Project For Sixth, Final Season

Hulu reveals that it has given the green light to one final season of the streaming service’s comedy program The Mindy Project.

Originally airing on FOX, the show starred creator and executive producer Mindy Kaling (who at that point was best known for her role as Kelly on The Office) as Indian-American gynecologist Mindy Lahiri. Although the program was a critical success, low ratings saw the network ax it after the third season in what would have been the death knell of the series until Hulu stepped in and picked up the show for its own purposes.

Since it’s cancellation and sudden revival, Mindy has gone on to have a grand total of 107 episodes produced, a number that is sure to grow once the sixth season is completed. In any case, it’s a big accomplishment for a program that almost ended two years ago.

Per Comingsoon.net, the source of this story:

In 2013, The Mindy Project was nominated for a Writers Guild Award for New Series. In 2014, Kaling and The Mindy Project earned nominations from the Television Critics Association for Individual Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding Achievement in Comedy. Kaling also earned a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Comedy and an NAACP Image Award nomination for her performance on the show in 2014. In 2016, the show earned a Gracie Award for Best Ensemble Cast.
