THE RATS OF NIMH: James Madigan To Direct Live-Action Remake

James Madigan Selected To Helm The Rats Of NIMH Remake

MGM picks Meg second unit director James Madigan to work on the studio’s planned CGI/live-action reboot The Rats of NIMH.

The project will be Madigan’s first as director, although he has extensive experience in the film production industry. He has worked on visual effects for a litany of movies, including but hardly limited to Van Helsing, The Da Vinci Code, Iron Man 2, Man on a Ledge, and Insurgent. Considering that it will utilize both CGI and live-action in a manner not unlike Disney‘s recent The Jungle Book, it sounds like Madigan will learn quite a lot from directing the remake.

Based on the beloved children’s book from author Robert C. O’Brien, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, the film will mark the second time the story has been adapted for the big screen. The first time was in 1982, when Don Bluth adapted it into animated form as The Secret of NIMH.

Comingsoon.net, the source of this story, had this to share about the original books and MGM’s other projects:

MGM has set Ice Age 5 scribe Michael Berg to script the new film, which has Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger are producing.

O’Brien authored a sequel to his original book, Racso and the Rats of NIMH, which was published in 1986. R-T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH, a third book, was written in 1990 by O’Brien’s daughter, Jane Leslie Conly.
