The Stepfather Remake

the-stepfather.jpgThis is “the season of remakes.” Hollywood doesn’t seem to want to risk something original. They see the theatrical failure of Grindhouse and balk at the notion. Because of that failure, The Weinstein Company reconsidered many decisions regarding future releases, one of which involved a film entitled All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Many companies use Grindhouse as an example of why not to go out on a limb but the remake craze was going on long before that. 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an example of how far back it reaches. Not only are studios remaking something that can never be properly remade, The Last House on the Left, and Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, they are now remaking 1987’s The Stepfather, with Nip/Tuck’s Dylan Walsh stepping in for Terry O’Quinn as the sociopathic stepfather. Sela Ward, Christopher Meloni, Paige Turco, Penn Badgley, along with other actors, have already signed on for the film as well. The latest addition to the cast is Amber Heard, whom you might remember from North Country. She played the young Josey Aimes, Charlize Theron’s character, in that film.
