Amazon Resurrecting Live-Action The Tick TV Series. The bug blue bug of justice is finally making a comeback! That’s right, The Tick is coming back to the small screen as Amazon Studios is showing interest in reviving the 2001 superhero sitcom with Patrick Warburton returning to reprise the title role.
Sources in People.com reported that The Tick is making an unlikely comeback to TV. Author Ben Edlund, who created The Tick and was involved in the short-lived TV series, would pen and produce the revival. Besides Patrick Warburton returning, there hasn’t been any other news on whether the rest of the cast would also return. Amazon failed to comment on the report about them picking up the critically acclaimed series.
The live-action sitcom, which also starred Lost’s Nestor Carbonell as Batmanuel ran for only nine episodes back in 2001 before Fox pulled the plug on it. During its original run, The Tick was praised by fans and critics alike for its premise and cast of characters. The show’s cast included Liz Vassey as Captain Liberty and David Burke as The Tick’s sidekick Arthur.
Patrick Warburton spoke with ComicBookResources on his time on the series back in 2009. He said, “That, to me, was an honor: To get into the blue suit and get to be The Tick. I loved that. I just wish that our beloved Fox network had actually given us a shot instead of killing off the show as they did.” Patrick even discussed on a possible comeback to the role in a feature film.
Based on Ben Edlund’s 1988 comic book series, The Tick was made as a spoof to comic book superheroes. The comics gained more popularity with the animated series which also aired on Fox from 1994 to 1996. Other merchandise was released to increase The Tick’s popularity, including trading cards, action figures, and even a beat ‘em up video game.
