THE TICK: Peter Serafinowicz To Play Superhero [Amazon]

Peter Serafinowicz The Tick

Peter Serafinowicz cast as lead in The Tick. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor will portray the big blue superhero in Amazon‘s upcoming original series based on the New England comics if the pilot is picked up.

Serafinowicz will take over the role from Patrick Warburton, who played the character in the last television iteration of the franchise and is now serving as an executive producer on the series. Other Tick veterans who will be involved with the project are Barry Josephson, who produced the previous series, and Ben Edlund, who created the character and will write for the show.

Other roles have already been cast, with Vinyl actor Griffin Newman set to play The Tick’s mild-mannered sidekick Arthur Everest and House of Lies alum Valorie Curry joining as Arthur’s sister Dot:

The Tick was originally created by Edlund in 1986 as a mascot for New England Comics. Edlund then brought the nigh-invulnerable justice seeker to life in The Tick’s own book two years later. In 1994, the first The Tick series came to television as an animated half-hour show which ran for two seasons and 36 episodes. All but two of those episodes have been released on DVD. However, citing “creative considerations,” “The Tick vs. The Mole Men” and “Alone Together” were omitted from their respective DVD sets.

In 2001, FOX debuted the live-action The Tick series with a pilot episode directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Despite being cancelled after only nine episodes, The Tick has remained a cult hit.
