THE WATER DIVINER (2014): Russell Crowe Directing Debut, Starring Role

Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe directing The Water Diviner. Russell Crowe has shown his directorial aptitude long before there was even a rumor about the possibility of him directing The Water Diviner (2014). Crowe made many important decisions and came up with plenty of good ideas for the Best Picture winner Gladiator alongside Ridley Scott, a film that turned him into a star. It is certain that he has learned a lot from Sir Scott – his most frequent collaborator – and with so much time spent with a directing legend (think DeNiro and Scorsese), it is only natural for Crowe to give the director’s chair a try.

Russell Crowe wants to direct a historical epic, with a story based on the battle of Gallipoli. The story involves a father searching for two of his sons in the aftermath of the famous World War I battle and in all likelihood Crowe will claim the main role. It is a very fitting story, genre, and role for Crowe to play – he gained fame through a historical epic and now it is only natural that he makes the next big step in his career in a sane genre. Furthermore, Crowe has plenty of experience with playing important father figures and soon he will get even more involved with the historical epic genre when next year he stars as the titular character in Darren Arronofsky’s biblical epic Noah.

The Winter Diviner has already began pre-production and the script is completed so unless Crowe decides to postpone his possible directional debut like he did sometimes in the past, there will be a green light for The Watter Diviner and it will be produced as soon as possible.
