THE WICKED + THE DIVINE: Comic Series Heads to Television

The Wicked + The Divine Being Developed as a TV Series. Critically acclaimed comic book The Wicked + The Divine is getting the small screen treatment as Universal Television is looking to produce a TV adaptation of Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s Eisner-nominated series.

Deadline first spread the news of the series from Image Comics. Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick from Milked Criminal Masterminds will help produce the show for Universal Television. The comic book series, which launched last year, blends mythological deities with the modern times as they gain celebrity status.

Here’s the synopsis of The Wicked + The Divine:

Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critical tongue-attractors like “Young Avengers” and “Phonogram” reunite to create a world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever.

The series, meanwhile, would run its story between 30 and 60 issues. So far, only ten of them have been published with the 11th issue to hit shelves on June 3.
