Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer reveal that Mister Sinister will appear in The Wolverine 3. The writer and director team disclosed that the infamous X-Men villain will play a role in the upcoming spin-off.
The two men made the announcement in the most inconspicuous of places: the audio commentary track for X-Men: Apocalypse. This news bombshell easily could have gone undiscovered had reporters for Cinema Blend not listened to the track and relayed its contents to the web.
While Mister Sinister’s presence in Wolverine 3 has now been established, it is still unknown who will portray him on the big screen. That being said, there are some potential contenders already cast in the film:
Given the cast of the film, there are a number of choices for who could be playing the villain in the film, including Boyd Holbrook (possible), Richard E. Grant (likely), or even Stephen Merchant (probably not). We know that the primary villains for the film will include both The Reavers, as well as Wolverine’s favorite group, Weapon X. It stands to reason that Sinister’s role in the film will be tied to the creation of X-23, the young female clone of Wolverine also along for the film’s road trip, which makes the post-credit scene for Apocalypse finally make some sense.
The new Wolverine movie will be Hugh Jackman’s last appearance as the title character. The cast also includes Patrick Stewart, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
