THE WOLVERINE 3 (2017): X-Men Film Rumored To Feature X-23

Wolverine X Men

X-23 believed to appear in The Wolverine 3. Speculation builds that the female Wolverine clone will make her big screen debut in the last film of the X-Men spin-off film series.

The rumors are fueled by a recent casting call put out for the film. The call, which doesn’t actually name the character producers are looking for, requests “Caucasian, Hispanic or Asian looking females over the age of 21,” a description that arguably could fit X-23’s appearance in the comics. Regardless, the rumors remain just that at this point.

A relatively recent creation, X-23 has earned a loyal following among X-Men fans and been featured in other adaptations of the Marvel comic series:

In the comics, X-23 or Laura Kinney, is the result of a cloning experiment who after twenty-two failed attempts, is the first successful clone of the mutant known as Wolverine. Because of this, she also possesses superhuman strength, enhanced reflexes, heightened agility, and an accelerated healing factor. However, unlike Wolverine, she only has two claws on each hand and one that protrudes from each of her feet. She’s a fairly recent creation, making her comic debut in 2004, but has already made appearances in two popular animated series: X-Men: EvolutionWolverine and the X-Men.

Mangold returns to direct with a script from David James Kelly (Straw Man). Jackman and Stewart will reprise their roles from the previous X-Men films with Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) joining the cast as the film’s villain.
