Third Chronicles of Riddick Movie moves Forward

The third entry in The Chronicles of Riddick franchise is moving forward at Universal. For anyone that is a fan on Pitch Black, this is good news.

Vin Diesel is going back to the future to topline and produce a third chapter in the “Chronicles of Riddick” franchise. Universal will handle domestic distribution on the sci-fi film, which is titled “Riddick.” Lionsgate is selling international rights at the Berlin Film Festival. David Twohy — who wrote and directed the first two films in the series, “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick” — will helm from a screenplay he penned.

I was ambivalent to the regular version of The Chronicles of Riddick because it was censored, toned down, and did not live up to the hype. Then I saw The Chronicles of Riddick: Unrated Director’s Cut, listened to Director Twohy’s intro, looked all of the material they cut out (entire scenes, jokes, brutality, blood, and profanity) for the PG-13 rating and I was satisfied with it. Not over joyed but satisfied. It seems as though they are correcting the major structural error with the second film as well:

Plot details are being kept under wraps. But insiders say the third outing will hew closer in tone to the cult hit “Pitch Black” and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits.

These are the three key words Twohy and Diesel need to keep in mind for the thrid The Chronicles of Riddick film:  dark, Rated-R violent, and convict.
