Planet Hulk’s Sakaar To Appear In Thor: Ragnarok
The planet Sakaar from Marvel Comics‘ Planet Hulk storyline is set to appear in the company’s upcoming film Thor: Ragnarok.
While it has been known for some time that the Thor sequel would incorporate elements of Planet Hulk into its plot, it was only recently that director Taika Waititi disclosed that Sakaar would be one of those elements:
Sakaar in the Planet Hulk storyline was located next to a wormhole in space, resulting in the planet becoming home to refugees from other worlds, and giving its gladiator games a host of different aliens to compete against each other.
Waititi also confirmed that the visual style of artist Jack Kirby was a big influence on the film, saying: “I was really excited when Kevin and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film. What’s really hard is staying authentic.”
Thor: Ragnarok will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder himself, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Sir Anthony Hopkins again portraying Odin. Cate Blanchett plays the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum stars as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban will add his might to the fray as Skurge.
