Joseph Kosinski Is The Frontrunner To Helm Top Gun 2

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is the top contender for the director’s chair on the recently-confirmed action film sequel Top Gun 2.

Making his directorial debut with the previously-mentioned Tron follow-up in 2010, Kosinski has since worked on several other films. In 2013, adapted his unpublished graphic novel Oblivion for the big screen, serving as director, writer, and producer on the film. More recently, he has helmed this year’s Granite Mountain and has been tapped to oversee the planned Twilight Zone movie.

A box office hit upon its release in 1986, the original Top Gun has become a fan favorite and remains a staple of 1980’s cinema. The movie became the subject of renewed interest after star Tom Cruise confirmed yesterday on Twitter that the long-awaited sequel was in the works.

Per Comingsoon.net, the source of this story:

Top Gun celebrated its 30th anniversary last year and it was one of the films that made Tom Cruise a household name. Back in 2016, producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted a picture of himself and Cruise with the caption, “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend Tom Cruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2.” Recently, he followed it up with the following post: “In Paris for #PiratesoftheCaribbean press and stopped by the MI:6 set to see TC on the 31st anniversary of Top Gun opening day.”
