Kevin Bacon Announces Syfy Has Picked Up Tremors TV Series
Golden Globe Award-winning Taking Chance star Kevin Bacon reveals that Syfy has opted to obtain the rights to the planned TV adaptation of Tremors.
Debuting in theaters in 1990, the original Tremors starred Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire as members of a small Nevada town that suddenly finds itself besieged by vicious, underground-dwelling worms. Although the film made only a modest sum at the box office, it proved to be very popular upon hitting the home video market, and the film ended up spawning five sequels. The most recent entry in the franchise, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, was released straight to video in 2015.
The new series from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions is not the first time the property has been adapted for the small screen however. A short-lived TV program that followed the continuity of the film franchise debuted in 2003 before being cancelled after only a few episodes.

“We are going to do a pilot for Syfy,” Bacon confirmed. “It’s the only character I’ve ever played that I was interested in exploring 25 years later. It [‘Tremors’] is a really good movie. I don’t go back and watch my movies but because we were doing this one, I had to go back and look at it. It’s just the idea of this loser who is living a very ordinary life and has an extraordinary experience with these monsters and becomes, for a moment, a hero.”
