TRON 3: Joseph Kosinski Says Sequel Is Still Possible

Joseph Kosinski Offers Hope And Story Details For TRON 3

TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski states that there is still a chance that Disney will make TRON 3 at some point.

With the last film released five years ago, it would appear that the studio has lost interest in continuing the story further. In fact, the last thing Disney had to say about a sequel was that it was putting it on ice after Tomorrowland, its last live-action science fiction film, bombed and made the company reconsider the viability of the subgenre.

However, if remarks made by the film’s director at special screening of it are anything to go by, there is a possibility that we may someday see another TRON installment. Calling the planned project “TRON: Ascension“, Kosinski explained that the script was “80% completed” and that Disney’s financial situation, thanks in no small part to its acquisition of Marvel and Star Wars, has changed dramatically since Legacy’s release, meaning the studio may be more amenable to a third TRON movie.

Per Superherohype:

“I guess I can say that ‘TRON 3’ is in cryogenic freeze,” explained Kosinski. “So, it’s there. It’s not dead. It’s alive, but it’s sitting there, waiting for the right time to move forward. I mean, you have to remember that when we made ‘TRON: Legacy,’ Disney did not own Marvel. Disney did not own Lucasfilm…they own everything now.
