I took a gander at the first episode of Thomas Jane’s new HBO series Hung and much like the first episode of the now deceased Rome; it was not as good as I had hoped. Its purpose was to lay the groundwork for the show’s premise and futures episodes. The pilot episode of Hung accomplishes that goal. I did find the first episodes of Gossip Girl, Madmen, and Ugly Betty, amongst others, to be vastly superior though. Jane’s well-endowed, hapless hero, Ray Drecker, reminds me of Tommy Gavin from Rescue Me, except he does not have the same witty dialogue. I hope during the next few episodes, Hung improves.
