Legends of Tomorrow Doomworld Review

The CW‘s Legends of Tomorrow: Season 2, Episode 16: Doomworld finds the Legends on the losing side of history.

The Spear of Destiny is in the hands of the Legion of Doom. Now, everything the Legends have fought to protect hangs in the balance.

The Legion of Doom’s ego has gotten the better of them. Instead of getting rid of the Legends, the Legion keeps them around, while wiping their memories of their past.

If the Legion were legitimate bad guys they probably should have removed the Legends from the timeline altogether. Then, destroyed the Spear of Destiny and called it a day.

The best thing about this episode is that the Legends lose, big time. Every time so far the Legends have managed to get a win in some capacity. This episode sets up a big blowout for the series finale.

Our old friend Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) has simply wanted to be appreciated. Because he was fooled by an evil Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller), the trust between him and other Legends shattered causing a series of unfortunate events.

Now, Rory is experiencing some strange form of regret. It is becoming obvious that he actually cares about the well-being of his fellow Legends. It is a surprising turn for Rory. He has gone out of his way to set himself apart from everyone else. But when it comes down to it he truly sees himself as a Legend.

Snart likes to remind Rory that he’s nothing more than an errand boy for the Legends. It doesn’t help that the Legends openly voice their distrust of Rory.

Even though Rory goes out of his way to save the Legends from the wrath of the Legion of Doom they still don’t trust him. In that moment, it falls on Rory to decide who he wants to be. Does he want to be who he has always been? Even though he is reunited with Snart things aren’t the way they used to be. The cops fear him, which obviously isn’t what Rory is used to. It takes the fun out of it for him.

All Rory wanted was a partner who respected him. But neither Snart nor the Legends seem to feel that way about him.

The Legends are obviously furious with him and the Legion only wants him for what he can do for them.

When Rory finally gets his hands on the Spear of Destiny the Legend in him finally wins out and he hands the Spear to Amaya Jiwe (Maisie Richardson-Sellers).

Just when it looks like things are about to revert back the show provides a surprise punch to the gut. As Amaya is about to undo what the Legion has done Snart shoots her with his blaster encasing her in ice. To add insult to injury he topples her over shattering her into pieces.

The scene has to be the most emotional moment of the series so far. It is a little strange that Rory didn’t turn out and counter Snart’s blaster the moment it happens. But let’s chalk that up to shock.

The Spear of Destiny has been destroyed. Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill)  is stuck on a miniature version of the Waverider. It will be interesting to see how the Legends manage to reunite and unalter the timeline before the season draws to the close.
