Mr. Robot eps2.9pyth0n-pt2.p7z Review
Mr. Robot: Season 2, Episode 12: eps2.9pyth0n-pt2.p7z ends the season with a literal bang, but can’t shake the feeling of what appears to be clinical detachment from its subject matter.
And what a shame that it’s unable to recognize the significance of the material, because fans of the show definitely will. With Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom) back in his life, Elliot (Rami Malek) is now under more pressure more than ever to finish what he, Tyrell, and Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) started: the overthrow of modern society as they know it. Eager to resume the job they started last season, Wellick has plans to wreak such havoc on New York that it will make the Five/Nine attacks look like child’s play. Mr. Robot of course, is all for assisting Tyrell in his campaign of terror, but Elliot suspects that what he sees is nothing more than another delusion encouraging him to indulge his own deep craving for anarchy.
At the same time, Dom (Grace Gummer) pleads with Darlene (Carly Chaikin) to reveal what fsociety has in store for the city. Although we expect Dom to have little empathy for the fugitive, she seems (or at least pretends) to genuinely have a soft spot for Darlene, even telling an incredulous Agent Santiago (Omar Metwally) at one point that they are one and the same person. True, it could all be an elaborate ploy on the wily FBI agent to lure Darlene’s guard down, but it is definitely engaging to watch these two characters realize or deny that they are more alike than they previously thought.
Speaking of letting one’s guard down, Elliot makes his most proactive step in standing up to his inner demons and outright refuses to help Tyrell launch his cyber attack. Ignoring the gun the disgraced E Corp official brandishes at him and Mr. Robot’s urging that he comply, Elliot attempts to sabotage the program Tyrell was programming, dismissing the two of them as mere hallucinations that have been keeping him from living a responsible life. When one of the hallucinations in questions shoots him, however, we are left to wonder if he will have a life to lead responsibly. For longtime viewers of Mr. Robot, this is all nothing short of exciting, but for people who just walked in on the show, they will likely be left pondering the significance of anything they just saw until Season 3 rolls around next year.
