TV Review: V (2009): Season 2, Ep. 10: Mother’s Day

Morena Baccarin, V

V (2009): Season 2, Ep. 10 – entitled Mother’s Day – had some of the best plot twists and action the science fiction TV show has seen to date. It was a great episode. I have to hand it to writers Gregg Hurwitz and Scott Rosenbaum, I have criticized them heavily in the past (written here: TV Review: V (2009): Season 1, Ep.12: Red Sky) but they certainly upped their plot twist game. The massive plot holes remain but now the show has something else sizable. Fallout. V will have massive fallout from the events in Mother’s Day. I even love the twisted title of the episode. The cliff hangers, some listed below, reminded me of the cliff hangers left unanswered in the Season Two finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles – entitled Born to Run.

The following are spoilers and what I found to be the most noteworthy portions of Mother’s Day.

Diana (Jane Badler) was brooken out of her cell by Joshua (Mark Hildreth) and Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut) and was subsequently killed by her own daughter Anna (Morena Baccarin): “Now, that’s how you kill your mother”,  Ryan Nichols had his neck snapped by his own daugheter, Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) son Tyler Evans (Logan Huffman) got fraked by a doppleganger (Laura Vandervoort) then got horror movie killed in the throws of post-coital ecstasy, and Anna acquired the ability to bliss all of humanity through her would-be adopted daughter.

Unfortunately, there was a turn of events that was very dubious. A.D. Paul Kendrick (Roark Critchlow) and Chris Bolling (Jay Karnes) were investigating Agent Evans through part of this season, which made perfect sense since two of Evans’ partners had been killed within a year, her frequent disappearances, her presence around the Vs, etc. They ended the investigation with no tangible proof of her innocence or guilt after one singular event and then it turns out that the investigators are part of a clandestine operations against the Vs. This was a very weak segment in the events that transpired in the season finale of V but with everything else that happened, fans (accustomed to the holes) will be able to look over it.
