Game of Thrones: Season 1, Episode 5: The Wolf and the Lion Photos and Review. Game of Thrones: Season 1, Episode 5: The Wolf and the Lion’s plot synopsis: “The plot centers in King’s Landing and Lord Eddard Stark (Sean Bean)’s investigations regarding the death of the previous Hand. In the city, the Tourney of the Hand comes to an end while the various factions that plot for power come to light. This delicate balance is undone when news arrive that Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) has been arrested by Catelyn Tully (Michelle Fairley).” This episode marks the season’s halfway point
and the action picks up considerably. Despite being a topic of discussion at King’s Landing, Daenerys and Ser Jorah do not themselves appear in this episode. Jon Snow and all characters on the Wall are also absent, and Robb Stark does not appear in Winterfell scenes. As such, Emilia Clarke, Iain Glen, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden and Kit Harington all have their names omitted from the opening credits.
The Wolf and the Lion also starred Mark Addy, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jamie Sives, Roger Allam, Emily Diamond, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Alfie Allen, Lena Headey, Esmé Bianco, Jerome Flynn, Antonia Christophe, Gethin Anthony, and Maisie Williams. This is one of the best and the sickest Game of Thrones episodes to date. The best parts for me were the end of jousting match when Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane (Conan Stevens) kills his horse and then his brother Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann) steps in to save the life of the Knight of the Flowers. No one was there to protect Sandor from Gregor in the past and now that he is skilled and powerful, he couldn’t stand-by. It was great moment along with others in the episode like the Eyrie and the sky cells.
When Catelyn’s sister Lysa (Kate Dickie) is breast-feeding her eight-year-old son Robin Arryn (Lino Faciolo) in front of The Imp and Catelyn’s guards, I just shook my head. Wrong, but in a good way, twisted. It really made the viewer uneasy, almost as much as Tyrion and Catelyn visibly were, giving each other unguarded looks. Great writing by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
The episode was also disturbing during the tit-for-tat between Varys (Conleth Hill) and Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen) as they talked about the sexual proclivities that the visitors to Littlefinger’s brothels have. It was a good dialogue moment: the two of them are going back and forth, discussing each other’s secrets and the fact that each of them should keep them. Their secrets could destroy them both.
