Showtime Gives Official Premiere Date For Twin Peaks
Showtime has offered an official airdate for the first episode of the network’s upcoming reboot of David Lynch‘s mystery series Twin Peaks.
Originally airing from 1990 to 1991, the offbeat, darkly humorous drama ended up becoming a hit with audiences and critics alike. Despite the enormous success of the show, creative differences with his co-producers led Lynch to depart from the production and sagging ratings meant the show couldn’t be saved when ABC decided to abruptly pull the plug, leaving the story on a now-notorious cliffhanger.
Nevertheless, many continued to discuss the show even after its untimely end and soon the property became something of a cult favorite, so much so that Showtime approached Lynch about the possibility of finally wrapping up the program he created some 25 years ago. These talks have obviously borne fruit, as the network and Blue Velvet director are all but ready to present the 18-hour limited series to the world.
Set for release on Sunday, May 21st, the program will have a two-hour premiere on Showtime, with the third and fourth hours being made available exclusively to viewers who subscribe to the network’s streaming services Showtime Anywhere and Showtime On Demand.
