UNICORN STORE: Brie Larson to Have Directorial Debut

Brie Larson

Brie Larson will direct Unicorn Store (2017). Brie Larson is certainly no stranger to Hollywood, but she clearly isn’t ready to get comfortable quite yet. It was announced today that Larson is headed for her directorial debut, helming a project called Unicorn Store.

Brie Larson first began to appear in the Hollywood mainstream in films 21 Jump Street (2012) and The Spectacular Now (2013), but she got her big break last year in Room (2015), for which she earned an Oscar. Recently she was cast as Captain Marvel in Captain Marvel (2019), earning her the record as the first star of a female-helmed Marvel movie.

Larson is a powerhouse performer whose career only seems to be gathering speed, and it appears that her next venture will be indie film Unicorn Store, which is set to begin production this October. In addition to directing, Larson will also star and produce.

The story was written by Samantha McIntyre, and it tells the story of a woman named Kit as she moves back home with her parents. Kit gets an invitation to a special store (presumably the Unicorn Store), and her experiences there inform her ideas on what it means to “grow up.”

Unicorn Store was originally developed as a project to star Rebel Wilson, but even after the comedic actress became unavailable, producers David Barnad and Ruben Fleischer continued the project. Although Larson’s involvement was only confirmed today, it appears that Barnad and Fleischer asked Brie Larson to star even before she won her Room Oscar.
