Unwind Short Film. John Lyde‘s Unwind (2012) short film stars Stefania Barr, Nichelle Aiden, Paul D. Hunt, and Dani Chuchran. Unwind‘s plot synopsis: based on the book by Neal Shusterman, “In America after the Second Civil War, the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life armies came to an agreement: The Bill of Life states that human life may not be touched from the moment of conception until a child reaches the age of thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, a parent may choose to retroactively get rid of a child through a process called “unwinding.” Unwinding ensures that the child’s life doesn’t “technically” end by transplanting all the organs in the child’s body to various recipients. Now a common and accepted practice in society, troublesome or unwanted teens are able to easily be unwound.”
This short film is FUBAR. I was wowed by the concept of the short film, how well it was shot, what was happening to Kelsey (Stefania Barr) on the table, and by the nurse (Nichelle Aiden) lulling Kelsey, keeping her calm e.g. “I’m still here for you.” When I quickly learned that this was based on a book and I read the book’s premise (featured above), I couldn’t believe it. This book begs to be read, especially after watching the horror show, short film below. I am impressed by both. I hope the book is as good as the short film. I am looking forward to it.
