VENOM (2018): Spider-Man Spin-Off Gets Release Date

Spider Man Venom Comic

Official Release Date Offered For Spider-Man Spin-Off Film Venom

Sony Pictures has set an official release date for its planned movie coproduction with Marvel Studios featuring the popular Spider-Man villain Venom.

The project will be the second entry in the newly-established partnership between the two companies. For years, Marvel was unable to include Spider-Man in its growing Cinematic Universe due to having sold the film rights to Sony back in the 1990’s. However, the two groups managed to reach a deal allowing Marvel to use the webslinger in its movies, with the character making his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War and set to headline his own solo film in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Little is known about the untitled Venom film, but it is set for release on October 5th, 2018 and screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner have already completed a draft of the screenplay.

CBR.com, the source of this story, shares the following information about the nemesis and darkling twin of Spider-Man:

In the comics, Venom was originally a Spider-Man villain, an alien symbiote which brought out the worst in our friendly neighborhood Peter Parker. He has become more than that in recent years, after the creature was bonded to Flash Thompson, a bully-turned-government-agent. It is unknown at this time which version of the character will appear in the film, though it seems more likely it will be the Flash incarnation.
