Damon Lindelof Developing Watchmen TV Series for HBO

It’s been a while since we heard about HBO developing a TV series based on Watchmen. Well now it looks like the potential small screen adaptation is still in its early stages with The Leftovers showrunner Damon Lindelof at the helm.

We first heard of the news sometime last year that HBO was developing a TV series based on the popular comic book series Watchmen. It was reported that director Zack Snyder, who worked on the film adaptation in 2009, was originally supposed to be involved with developing the show, but it looks like that’s no longer the case. Damon Lindelof has replaced him to bring the project to life for the premium cable channel. With Snyder’s work on the DC Extended Universe, it’s understandable that he wouldn’t be able to commit to developing a Watchmen TV series.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke news that the show would heavily draw upon Alan Moore’s original graphic novel, but it’s too soon to tell if the TV series will be a direct adaptation of the source material or if it would draw certain elements to craft a new story in the world of Watchmen. Perhaps we can see the Beyond Watchmen comic book series make it’s way to the small screen?

Watchmen followed the exploits of a team of superheroes in an alternate world where superheroes have been a part of society since the 1940s. The main story focused on the investigation into the murder of one of their own, which forces the team to come out of retirement to find out what happened. Zack Snyder’s film opened in 2009 with polarizing reviews but developed a cult following ever since.

Once we learn more information, we will give an update. For now, share with us your thoughts on the latest development and let us know what you think.
