Jumper, a movie of many disappointments, leaped to the number one spot this weekend with $27.2 Million. It will take a miracle for this film to hold the number 1 spot for two weeks in a row. Stepping into the second spot this weekend was Step Up 2: The Streets with $19.6 Million. The sequel to 2006’s successful Step Up (opening Thursday, Valentine’s Day) barely beat out The Spiderwick Chronicles, which made almost $19.1 Million for the weekend. Last weeks number 1 film, Fool’s Gold, dropped 39.4 % of its audience from last week for 4th place with almost $13.1 Million. This weekend’s other big release, the romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe, rounded out the top five with $9.6 Million. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Juno (now at $124 Million after Eleven Months of release), The Bucket List (now at a little over 81 Million), Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both World Concert Tour and 27 Dresses rounded out the ten respectively. George Romero’s Diary of the Dead was released in 42 theaters this weekend as well. Let’s hope it goes well enough to garner a wider release down the road.
