Allen To Write/Direct New Series For Amazon. Woody Allen has signed on with Amazon to write and direct his first television series. Amazon brought Allen on board to write and direct a full season of a currently untitled project.

Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series,” Amazon Studios vice president Roy Price said in a statement. “From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.

In typical self-depreciating Woody Allen fashion, the writer/director had this to say

I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.

Amazon Prime’s television model is to produce pilots for their tentative series and then allow the audience to decide which series should be picked up. Amazon had enough confidence in Allen’s star status and iconic filmography for them  to skip the pilot process altogether and go straight to series.

Episodes of the untitled Woody Allen project will be available next year on Amazon Prime’s Instant Video service.
