Jennifer Lawrence talks about reprising the role of Mystique after X-Men: Apocalypse. The Academy Award-winning Silver Linings Playbook and Hunger Games star hopes to return to the popular superhero franchise.
Lawrence’s comments come somewhat as a surprise, given that she previously appeared to be dismissive of the idea of acting in later X-Men films. When she was asked last year if she would continue to play the shape-shifting Mystique after Apocalypse, all the actress had to say was that it was her last X-Men movie. Now, however, it seems she has changed her mind about working on the series.
At this point, it is unknown if 20th Century Fox will ask Lawrence to return in future X-Men films, although she shared that her co-stars discussed what they would do if any of them were not asked to come back:
“I would love to come back,” Lawrence tells EW. “I love the fans and I love the character. But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest.”
There is a caveat though, as Lawrence says it’s an all-or-nothing deal between her and her co-stars about coming back.
“Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”
