Fox Puts In Pilot Order For New X-Men Series

Fox has committed to a pilot for the network’s upcoming X-Men program set to be made in conjunction with Marvel Television.

While 20th Century Fox still retains the rights to producing X-Men movies, the company’s TV division will cooperate with Marvel on the as of now unnamed spin-off series. Despite this, the show will not tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity but instead take place in the same timeline as Fox’s X-Men film franchise. This also differentiates the project from FX‘s similarly-themed Legion, which will take place in the X-Men universe but will generally avoid overlapping with it.

Another thread that connects the show to the movies is the involvement of Bryan Singer, who directed four of the films and will now serve as an executive producer on the series. Other people slated to work on the program are Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, and Burn Notice‘s Matt Nix.

Superherohype, which is the source of this story, shared the following information about the show’s plot:

The still untitled X-Men series will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.
