X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS: Scott Neustadter And Michael H. Weber To Write Screenplay

New Mutants Comic

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to write the script for X-Men: The New Mutants. The two Fault in Our Stars screenwriters will reunite to work on the X-Men spin-off.

The movie, which is to be helmed by Josh Boone, already has undergone several draft rewrites by Boone and Knate Gwaltney, so Neustadter and Weber will have their work cut out for them on the project.

New Mutants, which follows the superhero group of the same name from the comics, promises to introduce viewers to characters who might not be as well known as the members of Charles Xavier’s legendary team but still play an important role in the X-Men universe. Some of the roles identified by Boone as playing a role in the film are Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Warlock:

It remains to be seen who will fill all of these roles in the film, though a previous report pointed toward Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as potentially filling the roles of Wolfsbane and Magik. That report also noted that Alexandra Shipp‘s Storm (who made her debut in X-Men: Apocalypse) and James McAvoy’s Professor Charles Xavier would play major roles in the film as well.

New Mutants adapts the monthly comic book series of the same name that launched in 1982. Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, The New Mutants follows on a group of teenage mutants as heroes in training in the Marvel Universe.
