ZOMBIELAND 2: Horror Comedy Sequel Underway

Woody Harrelson Jesse Eisenberg Zombieland

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reece announce that they are working on a script for Zombieland 2. The Deadpool screenwriting team revealed that they are interested in making a sequel to Zombieland.

Originally released in 2009, Zombieland proved to be a box office hit as well as a success with critics. With a cast that included Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, the film raked in $102 million globally on a budget of only $23.6 million. The film’s success prompted Amazon Studios to order a pilot for a potential TV spin-off, but the company ultimately decided against picking it up for series.

Now that Wernick and Reece have shared their plans to finish the script and even meet with Woody Harrelson about returning to the film however, it seems that Zombieland fans might finally get the sequel they’ve been waiting for:

The original film starred Harrelson alongside Jesse Eisenberg (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”) Emma Stone (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) and Abigail Breslin (“Scream Queens”) as they and a handful of other survivors made their way across America toward a fabled Los Angeles safe haven. There’s no additional word on casting, although it’s pretty safe to assume Harrelson will be involved if they’re bringing their sequel ideas to him. No timetable has been given for a “Zombieland 2” release, but seeing as how the pair are also hard at work on “Deadpool 2,” as well as Eisenberg’s likely continued involvement within the DC Films universe, it might be a while longer before the film shambles into theaters.
