Worst Films of the Year Named at Razzie Nominations
Bryce Dallas Howard got a disappointing announcement recently as her name was among those people listed as the Worst Actress of the Year by the Razzies.
A very disappointing sequel to 2019’s Joker that came out last year took a bath at the Razzies nominations announcement as it was named as a contender for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and Worst Actress (Lady Gaga), not to mention Worst Director (Todd Phillips). Bryce Dallas Howard has the more troubling news since she was named as a Worst Actress candidate as well for a picture that didn’t even get off the ground at the domestic box-office, Argylle. Joker: Folie à Deux had the distinction of crossing $50 million at the domestic box-office but Howard’s film did not reach that mark which was embarrassing for such a star-studded project.
A one-time great director, Francis Ford Coppola, was named as a Worst Director nominee for his work on the bomb, Megalopolis. That movie makes Argylle look like a hit, though, as Coppola’s movie barely amassed $7 million in returns at the domestic box-office. Jon Voight was named as a Worst Supporting Actor contender for his work in Coppola’s travesty and Reagan, which was a Worst Picture nominee too.
Cate Blachett’s belly-flop, Borderlands was a nominee for Worst Picture and Worst Actress as well and its co-star, the voice of Jack Black, yielded a Worst Supporting Actor nomination. Kevin Hart and Borderlands director, Eli Roth, also received no love with their Razzie nominations for their movie which was publicly ignored in droves. Jack Black repeated with a Worst Actor nod for Dear Santa. Ouch.
Sony Marvel movies like Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web received Worst Screenplay nominations while Dakota Johnson got a Worst Actress nod for the latter picture. Ariana DeBose joined Bryce Dallas Howard as a performer from Argylle to get disrespect from the Razzies. Oscar winner DeBose was also cited for her dreadful work in Kraven the Hunter. In addition, Jerry Seinfeld got Worst Director and Worst Actor dishonors for his Netflix film about Pop Tarts, Unfrosted.
Other Razzie contenders included The Crow remake in a couple of categories. A sequel to Rebel Moon made an appearance in the Razzie nominations while Jennifer Lopez (currently earning acclaim for Unstoppable) rounded out the Worst Actress category for her work in Netflix’s Atlas. Expect Joker: Folie à Deux to sweep these awards in every category it is nominated in as filmmaker Todd Phillips’s sequel blew a billion dollar franchise in one fell swoop with the horrible ending that was attached to the poorly received Joker sequel. FilmBook rated all the actual Worst Picture contenders under a rating of 7 which made them non-recommended viewing. Argylle managed to sneak past us and get a 7 but Sam Rockwell was in it so…we may have been a bit more generous than we needed to be.
