Dolph Lundgren to Portray Villain King Nereus in Aquaman

A former 80s action star is about to return to the big screen as Dolph Lundgren has been cast to play the villainous King Nereus in Warner Bros. upcoming film Aquaman. The veteran actor will be facing off against Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in the big screen adaptation.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news that Dolph Lundgren has signed on to play King Nereus in James Wan’s Aquaman. He will be sharing the screen with Jason Momoa. The actor has been known for his villainous roles in Rocky IV, Universal Soldier, and The Expendables. This would mark Lundgren’s third comic book character he’s playing on screen. His first one was as Frank Castle in the 1989 film adaptation of The Punisher and the second was in Arrow recently as Red Star’s father Konstantin Kovar. In the comics, Nereus is the ruler of the Kingdom of Xebel who wants Mera (Amber Heard) for himself, so we may see the man going after her husband Arthur in the upcoming film. It would be amazing to see these two guys face off on screen.

With Lundgren’s casting, it does suggest that Arthur Curry will be facing off against multiple villains in the film, including Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) and Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson).

Aquaman is set for a December 2018 release with shooting set to start in Australia next month. What do you guys think of Lundgren playing the despicable King Nereus?
