BATGIRL: Joss Whedon is No Longer Directing Warner Bros’ Superhero Movie

Joss Whedon is Not Directing The Batgirl Movie

Director Joss Whedon is no longer directing a Batgirl movie. The film had been in development at Warner Bros. With Joss Whedon leaving the superhero movie project, it is now in need of a new guiding voice to direct and shape it. Joss Whedon, in a rather magnanimous statement, placed the blame squarely on himself for leaving the project:

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”

That is rather self-effacing in my estimation. There is a plethora of storylines that Whedon could have utilized for a Batgirl motion picture e.g. Killer Moth, The Joker, etc. If all else failed, Whedon could have gone with the standard starter superhero film – the origin story film.

The Joss Whedon Batgirl film was supposed part of the DC Cinematic Universe that Justice League, Batman v Superman, and Man of Steel are a part of currently.

No new director has been announced for the project.
