Netflix To Air Tucker’s Stand Up Special. Netflix has inked a deal with actor/comedian Chris Tucker to exclusively air his first full-length comedy special, “Chris Tucker Live” this summer. Chris Tucker Live will be directed by Phil Joanou and produced through Chris Tucker Entertainment.

According to Variety,

Tucker’s stand-up comedy performance will be available to stream in all territories where Netflix is available, on Friday, July 10. The special showcases Tucker’s comedic chops, as he shares experiences spanning from his childhood to big-time Hollywood. The special was filmed at the historic Fox Theatre in Tucker’s hometown of Atlanta.

Netlix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos had this to say,

Chris Tucker is a true global movie star and a one-of-a-kind talent whose remarkable energy, delivery and original style make him one of the funniest comedians of our time,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer. “We cannot wait to share his distinct and hilarious voice with our members across the globe.

Tucker on his upcoming special and partnering with Netflix.

I’m thrilled to be partnering with Netflix, one of the true global leaders in entertainment, on my first comedy special. Before people started seeing me in movies, I was doing stand-up. It’s always been a part of me, and now I’m excited to share it with my fans around the world.

The special will be a return to Tuckers stand-up roots. In the early 90’s, Tucker broke onto the Hollywood scene as a stand-up comedian on Russell Simmon’s Def Comedy Jam before making a name for himself with his iconic role as Smokey in the cult classic Friday. Although Tucker’s work in the box-office smash Rush Hour allowed him to command $20 million per movie salaries on par with Will Smith and Tom Cruise, he fell off of Hollywood’s radar after wrapping up the trilogy. Tucker recently made his big screen return in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook.
