Second Star Wars Anthology Film
Josh Trank has left the Galaxy far far away. “After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path,” said he said today.
“I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities,” he added.
Barbershop 3
Anthony Anderson is returning to Calvin’s, having signed on to appear in Barbershop 3. The Black-ish star will reprise his role as JD, the troubled ATM thief whose crimes nearly caused the closure of the titular shop in the original film. JD was arrested at the end of Barbershop, and subsequently Anderson didn’t appear in Barbershop 2.
Deon Cole has joined the cast of the threequel opposite Ice Cube, Common and Cedric the Entertainer. He’ll play Dante, a fixture at the shop who shares his pithy comments on any subject under the sun, even though his cultural references are a few years out of date. His casting comes a day after Common secured a role in the pic.
Regina Hall will co-star in New Line/MGM’s “Barbershop 3 alongside Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer
Hall will play Angie, the woman in charge of the beauty shop portion of the barbershop.
Lamorne Morris [is] in talks to appear in the film…Nicki Minaj and Queen Latifah are also said to be in talks to appear.
A Man In The Dark
Daniel Zovatto has joined the cast of the Fede Alvarez-directed thriller A Man In The Dark. He’ll be playing Money, one of the three lead characters. The plot follows a trio of young thieves who see the home of a reclusive, blind millionaire as an easy target. After breaking in, they discover the mark is actually a dangerous psychopath who begins hunting them one by one. The script is by Alvarez and his writing partner Rodo Sayagues.
Central Intelligence
Amy Ryan has booked the female lead in the Warner Bros-New Line buddy comedy Central Intelligence, which pairs Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. The film centers on a mild-mannered accountant (Hart) who hears from a former classmate (Johnson) who was bullied in high school. The guy the accountant remembers as a loser now kills for the CIA and talks him into helping thwart a plot to sell military secrets.
Ryan will play the CIA operative who is chasing Johnson’s character. She joins The Game‘s Danielle Nicolet, who will play Hart’s wife and childhood sweetheart. Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing from a script by Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen.
Lower Bay
Rose McGowan has been tapped to star in the indie psychological thriller Lower Bay from producer Michele Weisler. She will play Kelly Johansen, a best-selling author who investigates ghost sightings. Richard Gunn will play her fiancé, and Christopher Lloyd is set as a mysterious man who crosses paths with Kelly in an abandoned subway station. Jenna Mattison penned the feature
Shot Caller
Juan Pablo Raba has joined the cast of Shot Caller, an indie drama from writer-director Ric Roman Waugh. Raba will play Herman Gomez, a mentor to Money (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), an ex-con who is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang. Unbeknownst to Money, Gomez has teamed up with the feds to recapture him.
The Forever War
Channing Tatum [is] on board to star [in] The Forever War. The script is being penned by Jon Spaihts
Precious Cargo
Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films has teamed with Herrick Entertainment on Precious Cargo, an action thriller that Bruce Willis will star in, with Max Adams directing a screenplay he wrote
Set in a world of double crossing professional thieves, Willis plays Eddie, a crime boss trying to score the profits from another crook’s heist.
Youth in Oregon
Billy Crudup will star opposite Frank Langella in Youth in Oregon, a dark comedy from actor-turned-director Joel David Moore.
The script by Andrew Eisen tells of a husband (Crudup) on a cross-country trip to Oregon with his cantankerous father-in-law (Langella), a man who has given up on life. He must convince his father-in-law not to commit euthanasia when they arrive to the state.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
Laura Linney…is…joining the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
Details about Linney’s role are being kept hidden deep in the sewers.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant
Bill Skarsgard is in negotiations to join Shailene Woodley in the “Divergent” sequel “Allegiant”
Skarsgard is expected to share scenes with fellow franchise newcomer Jeff Daniels, who was just cast as David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The bureau created the faction-based society in which Tris was living.
The Long Home
Josh Hutcherson will star in the upcoming James Franco-directed drama “The Long Home”
Set in 1940s Tennessee, a young man (Hutcherson) finds himself working for the very bootlegger who killed his father 10 years earlier.
Steve Yedlin [will] serve as the Star Wars: Episode VIII cinematographer.
