The plot is being kept quiet, but the movie is a contemporary comedy in the vein of Groundhog Day.

Rupture

Michael Chiklis has joined the cast of Rupture, the Steven Shainberg-directed sci-fi thriller starring Noomi Rapace

The pic centers on a single mother (Rapace) struggling to raise her 12-year-old son alone who is abducted by a mysterious organization. Tied up in their lab, they question her about her medical history, eventually revealing that she has a genetic abnormality that her worst fear can cause her to “rupture” — causing her own alien nature to be released. It’s based on a story by Shainberg and Brian Nelson, and Nelson (Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night) wrote the screenplay.

Chiklis will play The Bald Man, the entity’s powerful point man who directs the mother’s violent capture.

Independence Day 2

William Fichtner has taken a lead role in Independence Day 2. Actually, he has signed with Fox to play a top general in that film and take an even larger role in the two films that will follow. Bron Studios

Love Letters to the Dead

Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to direct another YA phenomenon, Ava Dellaira’s “Love Letters to the Dead”

Dellaira adapted her own debut novel, which was published in April 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers. The story follows a teenage girl named Laurel who’s assigned to write a letter to a dead person for her English class. She chooses her late sister’s favorite musician, Kurt Cobain, who also died young. Inspired by the cathartic assignment, she sets out to fill a notebook with letters to dead celebrities such as Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Heath Ledger, Judy Garland and Amelia Earhart, among others. The letters help Laurel process her feelings and grief surrounding her older sister’s sudden and mysterious death.

Fist Fight

Ice Cube and Charlie Day are in talks with New Line Cinema to climb in the ring for Fist Fight, a comedy from scribes Van Robichaux and Evan Susser.

The pic is in the tone of the ’80s cult hit Three O’Clock High but a grown-up version: Day plays a mild-mannered English teacher who is put to the test when one of his colleagues (Ice Cube) who thinks he is trying to get him fired challenges him to a fist fight after school.
