Michelle Darnell

Cecily Strong has been set to join the cast of Michelle Darnell, the Universal comedy that stars Melissa McCarthy. Ben Falcone is directing. Strong joins Kathy Bates, Peter Dinklage, Kristen Bell and Annie Mumolo in the cast.

McCarthy plays a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. McCarthy created the character and wrote the script with Falcone and their Groundlings collaborator Steve Mallory.

Barbershop 3

Common has committed to star in the ensemble cast of Barbershop 3…He joins Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer, who are reprising, and The Best Man franchise director Malcolm D. Lee, who’s helming…The script is by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver.

I.T.

Stefanie Scott is…booking a co-starring role in Voltage Pictures’ revenge thriller I.T. that stars Pierce Brosnan and is being directed by John Moore. She will play Brosnan’s daughter in the pic, about a successful owner of a private jet business who finds himself pitted against a disgruntled young I.T. consultant who begins stalking his daughter and using technology to threaten his family, business and life.

Moore came on as director in August with William Wisher (Terminator 2), who rewrote the script. The project originally was out to buyers at the 2013 AFM with Italian helmer Stefano Sollima attached.

Hailee Steinfeld is set to star in supernatural romantic thriller Break My Heart 1,000 Times…Jason Fuchs will adapt the screenplay and Scott Speer is attached to direct.

It’s set following a cataclysmic event that has torn the barrier between our world and the next, leaving ‘Remnants’, ghost-like essences of the deceased, part of everyday life. After years of quiet coexistence with the living, a Remnant sends a threatening message to a young girl, propelling her on a mission with consequences that will forever change the course of her life.

Denial

Hilary Swank and Tom Wilkinson are attached to star in Denial, the David Hare-adapted drama based on Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book History On Trial: My Day In Court With A Holocaust Denier. The book recounts Lipstadt’s legal battle for historical truth against David Irving, who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. It was up to Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust actually happened and that Irving had manipulated data to make history vanish.

Molly Shannon, Paul Reiser and newcomer Tim Boardman have boarded Cranium Entertainment’s indie dramatic comedy Miles…Nathan Adloff is directing from a script he co-wrote with Justin D.M. Palmer…Annie Golden, Romy Rosemont, Yeardley Smith and Ethan Phillips co-star in the pic

Good Times

Kenya Barris…has been set by Sony to write Good Times, the feature adaptation of the groundbreaking sitcom about an African-American family on the other side of the spectrum, struggling in the Chicago projects in the turbulent ’60s.

Suicide Squad

Alex Meraz has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and DC’s “Suicide Squad.”

Meraz’s role is unknown.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2? has cast Brian Tee (“The Wolverine”) as iconic villain Shredder

David Green is set to direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.

Independence Day 2

Maika Monroe has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day 2.”

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Aubrey Plaza is set to join Zac Efron and Adam Devine in 20th Century Fox and Chernin’s comedy “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.”

Anna Kendrick is also on board to co-star.

Sanctuary

Paramount and producer Joel Silver have hired Black List scribes Nick Creature and Michael Sweeney to rewrite the supernatural action script “Sanctuary”

Originally written by Alan Trezza (“Burying the Ex”), the story follows a young woman who is possessed by a powerful demonic force. She seeks refuge within The Sanctuary, a secret organization run by the Vatican that teaches the possessed to channel their inner demon and use its power as a weapon against evil.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Jeff Daniels is in final negotiations to join the cast of Lionsgate’s Divergent YA franchise, with a deal about to close for him to appear in Allegiant Part 1 and Part 2.

Robert Schwentke is directing Part 1

Daniels will play David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The agency is behind the creation of the societies that Tris was living in and the reason behind their creation is slowly revealed (mainly in Part 2) to be nefarious.
