Leonardo DiCaprio

Ready Player One, 100 Bullets, The Devil in the White City, and other films have made recent film casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.

The Devil in the White City

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s planned serial killer movie “The Devil in the White City”

Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips”) adapted Erik Larson’s 2003 nonfiction book “The Devil In the White City: Murder, Magic And Madness At The Fair That Changed America”

DiCaprio will play Dr. H.H. Holmes, a prolific serial killer who stalked the fairgrounds at Chicago’s World’s Fair in 1893. Holmes worked for the producer/architect of the World’s Fair, so he had intimate knowledge of the location. The charming sociopath is rumored to have killed up to 200 people and studied the remains for science.

Going in Style

Ann-Margret has joined the cast of Zach Braff’s “Going in Style” remake as Alan Arkin’s love interest

Arkin, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine star as lifelong friends who decide to rob the bank that bilked them out of their hard-earned pensions.

Matt Dillon will play the FBI agent pursuing the elderly trio, while Joey King (Braff’s “Wish I Was Here”) will play Caine’s granddaughter.

The Ted Melfi-scripted New Line comedy is a remake of Martin Brest’s 1979 film

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, “The Promise” deals with the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Isaac stars alongside Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon, the latter of whom serves as the center of a love triangle.

Sarafyan has closed a deal to play Isaac’s wife from an arranged marriage.

La La Land

Meagen Fay has joined the cast of Whiplash helmer Damien Chazelle’s musical feature La La Land, in which Ryan Gosling stars as a jazz pianist who falls for an aspiring actress (Emma Stone). Fay will play the actress’ mother.

100 Bullets

New Line and Tom Hardy are loading up on 100 Bullets.

Hardy…is on board to produce the adaptation with an eye to star.

The project is already down the line in development, having a script by Chris Borrelli

Running for 100 issues from 1999 to 2009, the acclaimed comic centered on an enigmatic man named Agent Graves as he presents different people, for reasons unknown, with a gun, the identity of the person who ruined their lives … and a hundred rounds of untraceable ammunition.

Cold

Lionsgate has acquired Cold, an original pitch by Bill Marsilii with Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea producing through their Pacific Standard Films banner. Witherspoon also is attached to star.

The plot is being kept under wraps but has been described as a dark thriller with supernatural elements.

Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg was pursuing Gene Wilder for one of his upcoming projects

Our sources seem to think Spielberg is trying to get Wilder to lend his voice to The BFG (which would be a remarkable return to the world of Roald Dahl for Mr. Wilder), but there’s also another project on Steven’s plate that he’d be perfect for.

Let’s use our pure imaginations for a second and think about how amazing Gene Wilder would be as James Halliday, the creator of the virtual universe OASIS in Ready Player One.
