In The Coldest City, Theron…plays a super spy who springs into action after an underground MI6 officer is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. She must find a list he was smuggling into the West to protect herself and the counter intelligence community. It becomes a game of double-crossing as agents play out global agendas.

Barbershop 3

Barbershop 3‘s cast continues to expand with the addition of Margot Bingham. Bingham…will play the character of Bree, described as “a natural beauty who wears her distrust of men on her sleeve.” She’ll appear as a romantic rival to Chyna Layne’s ‘Kayla’, and abhors a romantic vacuum.

The Birth Of A Nation

Penelope Ann Miller has signed on to appear in “The Birth Of A Nation“, the provocatively-titled biopic about Nat Turner, the slave who led a bloody revolt against the peculiar institution in 1831. Miller will play Elizabeth Turner, the mother of slaveowner Samuel Turner, a refined, kindly woman who spots Nat’s intelligence, and makes a special point of teaching him to read. Devoutly religious, Elizabeth becomes appalled by the atrocities of the slave system. Miller joins Armie Hammer, who plays Samuel, as well as Aja Naomi King, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Dwight Henry, Roger Guenveur Smith and Gabrielle Union. The Birth of a Nation is directed by Nate Parker, who also writes and directs.

The Wolves At The Door

Katie Cassidy has joined the cast of New Line’s period thriller The Wolves At The Door, helmed by Annabelle director (and frequent James Wan-cinematographer) John Leonetti. Written by Gary Dauberman

Cassidy will be starring opposite the earlier-announced Miles Fisher, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Adam Campbell.

On The Basis Of Sex

Natalie Portman is set to play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in On The Basis Of Sex, with Marielle Heller (The Diary Of A Teenage Girl) in negotiations to direct.

The script, which follows the travails of Ginsburg as she faced numerous obstacles to her fight for equal rights throughout her career, was written by Daniel Stiepleman

Jungle Book: Origins

Freida Pinto is joining the Andy Serkis-directed Jungle Book: Origins at Warner Bros. She’s lined up to play one of the live-action roles

Independence Day 2

DeObia Oparei…has booked a role in 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day 2. The sequel to the monster 1996 original that made $811 million worldwide is currently in production in New Mexico and has a June 24, 2016, release date.

Oparei will play Dikembe, the Oxford-educated son of an African warlord.

Loving

Jeff Nichols…has solidified his next film…Loving, a drama that Nichols wrote and will direct…with Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga starring as Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple behind the seminal 1967 civil rights case Loving vs. Virginia.

Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple, were married in June 1958. As a result, authorities broke into their home, arrested them, and they were sentenced to a year in the state penitentiary. This sentence was suspended on the condition that they be exiled from the state of Virginia. Unbowed, the couple spent the next nine years fighting to get home, together, and the theme of the story is about marrying the one you want and finding the one you need.

A Dog’s Purpose

Lasse Hallstrom has committed to next direct A Dog’s Purpose, an Audrey Wells-scripted adaptation of the W. Bruce Cameron novel.

Cameron…wrote the first draft with Cathryn Michon. The book is about one dog’s quest to discover his purpose in life over the course of several lifetimes with multiple owners.

The Kaiser’s Last Kiss

Lily James (Cinderella) is set to star opposite Christopher Plummer in The Kaiser’s Last Kiss…director David Leveaux will make his feature debut with the spy thriller set in the early years of World War II, in the aftemath of the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. Living there is former monarch Kaiser Wilhelm, living in exile since 1917. In an effort to thwart the Nazis, the Dutch resistance work covertly with Winston Churchill to insert an agent into the Kaiser’s household. A lethally dangerous love affair ignites between a German officer and a young Jewish Dutch woman (James) with devastating consequences as the Nazis race to identify and eliminate the agent behind the potentially disastrous defection of their former Emperor to England.

The Circle

Alicia Vikander will star in the tech world drama-thriller The Circle.
