James Franco Making a Return to the Screen in Rambo Movie
James Franco will be featured in the new First Blood prequel/reboot, John Rambo, opposite lead actor Noah Centineo.
James Franco has joined the cast of a one-time blockbuster franchise. Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo movies were quite big back in the 1980’s and did big business at the box-office. Noah Centineo (of The Fosters fame) has been cast in the central role made famous by Stallone in the upcoming John Rambo which will focus on the Vietnam War and Rambo’s adventures before we met him in First Blood.
Franco made plenty of funny movies such as Pineapple Express and The Interview, but is also a compelling dramatic actor from physically demanding films like 127 Hours, a movie which should have given him the proper experience to handle his role in the forthcoming Rambo action film. Franco is also well-known for his courageous and menacing performance in 2013’s Spring Breakers, which was one of the best roles of his career.
David Harbour is also featured in John Rambo as Rambo’s commanding officer and both Harbour and Franco will add star power to the mix as fans anxiously await the new action picture to see if it will be as good as Stallone’s own Rambo movies. The true nature of Franco’s role in John Rambo has not been made abundantly clear as of now, but Franco was at the Cannes Film Festival recently to help promote a new project, Club Kid, and he gave an interview which stated he was in the upcoming prequel movie. John Rambo recently wrapped production in Thailand, according to a couple of sources.
Franco took a step back from the spotlight amidst allegations of sexual misconduct which the actor fully denies. It will be interesting to see the actor back at work acting again. He made the successful movies, Why Him? and The Disaster Artist and was doing excellent in Hollywood before he disappeared from the limelight for a bit.
John Rambo is a perfect project for Franco to re-establish himself in the cinematic world. Because of the success of the Stallone movies the new picture is based on, many insiders expect John Rambo to potentially be a box-office hit. That’s because there are a lot of people who are curious to see how the character (Rambo) became the warrior he became in the hit movies that were featured in the 1980’s.
In 2019, Rambo: Last Blood made less than $100 million worldwide. Many believe those numbers were so low due to the depressing nature of the picture. It only earned a “B” CinemaScore while the previous 2008 Rambo film scored a much higher “A-.”
Expect Franco to play a pivotal supporting role in John Rambo and look for more news on this project and its release date as details are made available.
